ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

One of two sisters convicted of killing their mother in their Rockdale County home was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Thursday.

Tasmiyah Whitehead pleaded guilty to manslaughter, lying to police, and being in possession of a knife in commission of a crime.

Tasmiyah and Jasmiyah Whitehead were 15 years old when police said the teens stabbed and beat their 34-year-old mother, Jarmecca Whitehead, to death on Jan. 13, 2010.

Initially, police said the twin girls told them they came home and found their mother's body.

The jury in the trial of Jasmiyah Whitehead is scheduled to be chosen the week of March 17.
