Storms topple trees in Cumming

CUMMING, GA (CBS46) -

Several hundred people in Forsyth County were without power much of Saturday after powerful winds toppled trees across the region.

Georgia Power reported as many as 9,000 people were without power at one point Saturday morning across metro Atlanta. That included many people in the Green Acres neighborhood in Cumming, where at least a dozen trees were bent and broken by the high winds.

"A tornado almost touched down, broke about 20 trees here," said Billy Rice with Sawnee EMC. "We had about 250 people out (of power)."

A spokeswoman with Georgia Power said almost everyone had their power restored by lunchtime Saturday.
