Overnight shooting near downtown Richmond sends two to hospital

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Two men were shot early Saturday morning near downtown Richmond.

Police say the two men were shot near the 100 block of West Marshall Street and went to VCU Medical Center where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Lucas Fracher lives and works in the area. He's lived in Richmond for the last 10 years and is co-owner of a clothing store on West Broad Street. He says despite recent shootings in the area, the Art District isn't at bad place to call home.

"We have a lot of great restaurants around here and its pretty safe. Obviously, there is crime, but that's any big city," says Fracher. "You know it happens just about everywhere, so you just have to really make sure that you stay safe. Stay away from the negativity and be cautious."

Robert Banner and Denise Maurice both live in the area. They say its not about a particular part of town but about people who do wrong or bad things.

"There are good and bad people everywhere, so an area is just cement and trees and other stuff. It's just about the type of people that you surround yourself with," Maurice said.

The two victims are recovering from their injuries. If you have any information on the case you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
