ATHENS, GA (CBS46) -

National champion defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt has been named the defensive coordinator at the University of Georgia, according to a release from the school.

"I'm ecstatic," said Georgia head football coach Mark Richt.

Pruitt just won the 2013 BCS National Championship as Florida State's defensive coordinator.

FSU's defense ended the 2013 football season ranked first in scoring defense, second in team passing efficiency defense and third in total defense, according to the release.

"This is an outstanding professional and personal opportunity," said Pruitt. "I'm looking forward to meeting the current players and getting on the road to visit with recruits."

Prior to joining Florida State in December 2012, Pruitt was the defensive back coach at Alabama from 2010-12.
