CARROLL COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

The remains of a man missing since September 2013 have been found in Carroll County.

Around 1 p.m. Friday, the body of James Van Chatman, 61, was found at the Little Tallapoosa River off Carrollton Tyus Road.

Chatman was last seen at his home on Shady Grove Road in Sept. 2013 and a missing persons report was filed.

On Jan. 15, a Maysville, KY, man was extradited to Georgia on theft by taking charge of Chatman's pickup truck.

Michael Timothy Fite, 44, was booked in the Carroll County Jail. He appeared in court Friday for the charges.

After Fite's arrest, investigators were able to obtain the location of Chatman's remains.

Carroll County Sheriff's deputies said Fite and Chatman were acquaintances at one time.

Chatman's remains have been taken to GBI crime lab for autopsy.

There may be other arrests and charges, according to authorities.
