Motorist drives off the side of a bridge, truck ends up in creek

Posted: Updated:

First responders raced to rescue a senior who drove off a bridge in Cobb County, Monday.

Witnesses at the scene tell us the driver was a man in his 90s.

According to neighbors, the man pulled away from the stop sign at the intersection of Bill Murdock Drive and Casteel Road just as another car was making the turn onto Casteel.

That car was driven by a teenager, according to onlookers.

The pickup clipped the teenager's car and overcorrected, taking it over the guardrail and off the bridge.

It then plummeted more than 20 feet to the creek bed below, where it landed on its nose and rolled onto the roof, crushing it.

Surprisingly, the man inside the truck suffered only minor injuries, according to first responders.

Luckily, the water level of the creek was less than a foot deep which eased concerns of the man drowning.

He was also able to get himself out of the truck and was making his way out when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Nearly two hours later, the wrecking crew pulled the truck out of the creek and hoisted it back up onto the bridge where they turned it over and carted it away.

The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Police are still looking into the accident; no word on if anyone will be cited in the accident.
