Fort introduces legislation to provide more state healthcare options

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Sen. Vincent Fort (D- Atlanta) introduced legislation that would provide at least two healthcare provider options for teachers. Senate Bill 328 would require the Board of Community Health to consistently provide teachers and state employees with at least two health care vendors.

"The teachers deserve better than what this health plan offers," said Sen. Fort. "We must give them options that offer lower deductibles and better coverages. They don't deserve this disastrous plan which in effect is a pay cut in order to enrich political cronies."

Presently, all state employees are enrolled in a single coverage plan. SB 328 would amend the current law in order to provide more than one health care vendor to all 650,000 state employees.

It would not end the current contract, but instead increase the amount of vendors at the next possible time. This protects all who are currently insured and secures a future of choice for all those who have dedicated their time and hard work to serving the children and families of Georgia.
