Henry County braces for winter blast

Posted: Updated:
HENRY COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Henry County's Emergency Management Planning Agency packed a full house Monday afternoon. Every department of the county's government gathered around two large projection screens to look at Tuesday's forecast.

On the conference call was a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Peachtree City. He spoke to governments across the state.

Henry County EMA Director Don Ash said a plan is already in place.

"Absolutely all of our public safety workers will move to 12-hour shifts," said Ash.

Henry County's public works department will also work overtime. The county has a generous supply of sand to cover the roads, but only four spreaders.

Hospitals, police and fire departments will be the first priority. After that, GDOT will focus on primary roads.

Henry County Schools kept students home Tuesday.
