A local bookkeeper is invited to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night.

Antoinette Tuff will be seated in the box with the First Lady Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden and Valerie Jarrett, senior advisor to the president. Tuff will be joined by several others invited by the White House.

Tuff became a household name after she prevented a shooting at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy on August 20, 2013. Tuff talked the would-be shooter, Michael Brandon Hill, into surrendering to police.

Tuff has been nominated for the Carnegie Medal for civilian heroism.

She has recently written a book about the ordeal.

President Obama will address the nation and the joint session of Congress at 9 p.m. EST.
