1 day left until Atlanta police starts towing cars

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Atlanta police said less than 25 cars that were abandoned and impeding the flow of traffic were towed Friday.

Authorities have not towed cars that were on the side of the road, however, they say time is running out for your to retrieve your vehicle.

All vehicles will be towed Sunday

Starting at noon Sunday, Atlanta police say they will start towing all cars left on the side of a road as a result of the winter storm.

Tow fees waived in Atlanta

Atlanta police will waive your tow fees if your vehicle was towed after being stranded on the side of a road.

However, starting at noon Sunday, normal tow fees will apply.

If your car was impounded by Atlanta police, the Property Control Unit will give you a credit form which will include the case number and vehicle information.

You can then present the form to the wrecker service to get your car at no charge.

Alpharetta tow fees will be waived

The city of Alpharetta has ordered the removal of abandoned cars that are blocking lanes.

The city has contracted United Towing to tow the cars, but the fees will be waived.

DeKalb County tow fees will be waived

DeKalb County will waive towing fees for those who were stranded on a DeKalb County roadway because of the winter weather.

Stranded drivers will have until midnight Friday to pick up their vehicles from towing lots.

The following lots will waive fees:

  • Cymil
  • Brown and Brown
  • South DeKalb
  • Statewide
  • S&W

Johns Creek will start towing cars Monday

Starting Monday, Feb. 3, the city of Johns Creek will start towing all vehicles stranded because of the winter storm at the owner's expense.

State of emergency extended

Gov. Nathan Deal has extended a state of emergency for two additional days, through Sunday night.

The state of emergency was extended to make sure all the necessary resources are available to clear roads or deal with any other winter weather-related issue.
