After bizarre fatal car accident, driver in court to face charges

Posted: Updated:

An Ellenwood woman was in a Douglas County courtroom Monday to face a judge for the first time, following a fatal car accident Friday night in a Douglasville townhome community.

Brehonna Turner, 23, faces charges of aggravated assault and felony murder in the death of Alexandria Wells, 23. According to Douglasville police, Wells was pinned under Turner's car while she was driving to confront an ex-boyfriend.

By Monday morning, a makeshift memorial had formed at the site of the crash, in the Ashley Oaks townhome community.

Police Chief Chris Womack said Wells was an innocent bystander who had absolutely nothing to do with the dispute between Turner and her ex-boyfriend.

"We see it all the time where people are in domestic situations, they let their emotions get the best of their common sense," said Womack.

"(Turner) traveled a long way to get to where she was here in Douglasville. She actually left and turned around and came back, before the innocent person got ran over, who was the unintentional target."

Judge Robert James did not provide an opportunity for Turner to make bail. She was informed of the charges against her, but a future court date was not immediately set.
