DeKalb County deputies shoot man outside church

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A man was shot during a gunfight between DeKalb County Sheriff's deputies in a church parking lot.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church on Woodrow Road in Lithonia.

DeKalb County sheriff's deputies were following Nicolas Clarence Wade, who was wanted for the stabbing death of 18-month-old child.

Wade pulled into the church parking lot and deputies moved in.

That's when Wade pulled out sawed off shotgun and pointed it to his head, then turned it to deputies.

Wade was able to fire one shot before deputies opened fire, hitting Wade three times.

Wade was arrested and is in stable condition at an area hospital.
