Seabrooks to be inducted into GADA Hall of Fame

Dougherty County School System athletic director Johnny Seabrooks is headed to another Hall.

The Georgia Athletic Directors Association announced Monday Seabrooks will be inducted into the organization's Hall of Fame in March.

"Anytime you get information that your peers are recognizing you for a job that you do, it's just a great honor," says Seabrooks. "To get that email or to get that phone call that says, 'Congratulations, we think you're one of the people in the state that has made a difference,' and that's what its about: making a difference."

Seabrooks has been the DCSS AD for 12 years, after serving as the Dougherty and Monroe High track coach.

Over the years, his deep knowledge of the track and field rules has led him to be the sport's rulebook guru in Georgia.

Not only that, coaches and athletic directors from around the state turn to Seabrooks for advice.

"When I started out in this thing 12 years ago, I never would've thought that the honors that I've received to this point would be where they are," Seabrooks says. "I'm happy and blessed to be in a position to help other people and for them to think enough of me to come to me and ask questions or think that I can give direction they need to go."

This isn't Seabrooks' first Hall of Fame induction either.

He is already a member of the Georgia Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame. Last year, Seabrooks was inducted into the Albany Sports Hall of Fame.

"A complete surprise. I'm completely shocked that I'm going to be honored in Albany Sports Hall of Fame, and now in the Georgia Athletic Directors Hall of Fame," Seabrooks says. "You go from the coaching aspect of it, to the ability when you played, and now as an administrator. Being elected is truly a great honor."

Seabrooks will be inducted with two others at the GADA Hall of Fame banquet on March 23.
