Missing 81-year-old found safe at Fredericksburg bus station

SPOTSYLVANIA, VA (WWBT) -

An 81-year-old man with Alzheimer's was found safe Monday morning at a bus station in Fredericksburg.

Spotsylvania sheriffs worried Ben Davis Hoff could be in harms way when he went missing Sunday afternoon. The California man was visiting relatives in Spotsylvania county when he went missing. Authorities were especially concerned because he suffers from Alzheimer's and dementia and may also have trouble speaking.

Sheriff Roger L. Harris announced Monday Hoff was located Monday and brought back home to his family in Spotsylvania.

A citizen spotted Hoff near the bus station in downtown Fredericksburg and recognized him from the news coverage. Hoff had tried to enter the bus station and found it closed Sunday evening, so he had stayed in a stayed in a nearby motel.

"It's teamwork and cooperation that helps in bringing these types of situations to a remarkable and safe resolution," said Sheriff Harris.
