Emory students on edge as police search for rapist

Posted: Updated:

Emory Police are looking for a 5-foot-10-inch tall white man in his late 50s, with a reddish or brown beard. Investigators said he is a rapist, wanted for attacking an Emory student nearly a week ago.

"It's really scary especially for people who live on campus," said Kristin Denlinger, an Emory student.

Denlinger doesn't live on campus anymore, but she said she is still concerned about her safety.

"I always think that Emory is such a safe place, so it is really troubling when something like this happens," Denlinger said.

University officials and police said they are doing all they can to catch the suspect and reinforce safety options available to students. The university emails students information about criminal incidents on campus and provides a free shuttle to students who need a ride around campus.

"I have seen the sketch all over campus and every time the emails come out, they give good information about what happened and how to stay safe," Denlinger said.

Investigators said the suspect was last seen running from campus toward the Emory Village, wearing a brown knit cap, a tan or brown jacket, dark blue jeans and brown boots. If you have seen the suspect, contact the Emory Police Department.
