Iberville Parish introduces proposal to ban saggy pants

PLAQUEMINE, LA (WAFB) -

People in Iberville Parish had plenty to say about a proposed ban on saggy pants.

Parish leaders introduced the measure at Tuesday night's council meeting.

There are a number of towns and parishes all over Louisiana that have made a similar move, including the city of Plaquemine and town of Grosse Tete.

The measure would include the unincorporated areas in Iberville Parish.

"I have a lot of people complain about saggy pants and I have it in my area," said Councilman Louis Kelley Jr. "They say I'm trying to be racial about it, but I'm not. I live in a community in Bayou Sorrell and they are doing the same thing and I just don't think you should have to look at someone's undergarment."

The council could vote on the issue during its next meeting on March 18.
