Doraville PD: Officer fired after agreeing to sell machine gun

Posted: Updated:
DORAVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

A Doraville police officer has been fired after allegedly trying to sell a firearm, department spokesman Gene Callaway confirmed.

Callaway said the department investigated former patrol officer Woodrow Mann after receiving a tip that he accepted money for a class 3 weapon, more commonly known as a machine gun.

Doraville Police officials consulted with federal authorities who determined no laws were broken because Mann did not actually deliver the gun.

It is unclear who offered to buy the gun.

The department's internal investigation ended with Mann's termination Friday.

Callaway said more details will be released after Mann's window for appeal expires next week.

Mann has been on the force since at least 2008, according to Callaway.
