Restaurant Report Card: Atlanta's Best Restaurants

Posted: Updated:

Atlanta's Best Restaurants is a look at Zagat's best spots in Atlanta to dine out, determined by rankings in Zagat's annual top restaurants guide.

Managing Editor of, Chris Walsh, joined CBS Atlanta's Adam Murphy via Skype from New York.

Adam Murphy, RRC: "Chris, we all want to know which restaurant is ranked No. 1 for food in Atlanta?"

Chris Walsh, Zagat: "Adam, let's go through the list so we have the top five for food listed here. Bacchanalia, an American restaurant, was first, Antico Pizza, which is a fantastic pizza place, was second, Aria was third, Bones Restaurant was fourth and Valenza was fifth. The people of Atlanta said to us these are the best restaurants, based on the scores of food, decor and service."

Adam Murphy, RRC: "What is Atlanta's favorite cuisine?"

Chris Walsh, Zagat: "It's Italian; 23 percent of people in Atlanta said Italian food was their favorite. The national average is about 25 percent. I also thought it was interesting that the people of Atlanta said they wanted more seafood. Sixteen percent of the people said they would like to see more seafood."

Adam Murphy, RRC: "How often do people eat out per week in our area?"

Chris Walsh, Zagat: "It's actually higher than the national average. It's quite high, at 4.8 meals per week."

Adam Murphy, RRC: "Another thing I want to ask you: are we considered good tippers here in the South?"

Chris Walsh, Zagat: "You want to guess what the national average was?"

Adam Murphy, RRC: "I would guess 17 percent."

Chris Walsh, Zagat: "Yes, I would have guessed something like that as well, but it's actually 19 percent. That's the national average, which is pretty good, and people in Atlanta are right around there."

Adam Murphy, RRC: "Any final advice for diners in the metro Atlanta area?"

Chris Walsh, Zagat: "I would say keep going out; Atlanta seems to be a great place to go out and eat. I'm looking forward to the next time I go there."

Adam Murphy, RRC: "Chris Walsh, Managing Editor for, thank you so much. We really appreciate you joining us, very good information."
