A Michigan man has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in federal prison for a scheme to get more than $300,000 in refunds from Home Depot stores in 13 states.
Larry D. Fields admits that he and others took bar code stickers off items and placed them on goods that typically cost much more. The items were returned to Home Depot with the higher price bar code.
Fields appeared Thursday in Flint federal court after pleading guilty to fraud last fall. Co-defendant Chris M. Smith was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison in December.
The refunds were put on Home Depot store cards that were peddled to others. Fields and Smith also resold some goods.
They were arrested last May.
