An 11 year-old boy had to get several stitches on his head Friday morning after a tree fell on his family's home in east Cobb County. Severe weather in the area also caused several other trees to fall in the Oak Knoll Drive neighborhood.
Tanner Gottschalk said he was awake when the tree came through the ceiling in his room around 5 a.m.
"I thought I was going to die," he said.
Gottschalk was able to dig out from underneath the rubble and find his mother, Karen. She said her son had blood all over his face when she found him, but the cut on his head was taken care of with stitches.
The Gottschalks' home was all but destroyed by the falling tree. They said their insurance will help pay for repairs, and they hope to be back in the house later this summer.
