Charges for a Forsyth County man have been upgraded in the death of a 3-year-old boy.
Investigators said Christopher E. Truett, 25, of Butts County, was babysitting Wyatt Pruitt at a home in the 3800 block of Pointe Vecchio Circle.
Truett called the boy's mother, Dawn Schutts, and told her to come home and then he called 911.
When Schutts arrived, she found Wyatt unconscious and not breathing and finished the call to 911. Emergency crews rushed the boy to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators said Truett, who is Schutts' boyfriend, left the house where Wyatt was found before deputies arrived. SWAT teams with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene where Truett was found hiding in a wooded area nearby.
Truett was originally charged with cruelty to children in the first degree and reckless conduct, but by Friday charges were upgraded to felony murder, malice murder and aggravated battery after an autopsy was performed.
The preliminary autopsy report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Wyatt died as a result of blunt force trauma.
On Tuesday night, people who live near the boy held a candle light vigil.
"I've got a 3-year-old and it just touches close to home," said Jamie Wright. "We are a strong community and we want to help the community through this tough time."
"The tragedy just sickens me. I've got two children and it just breaks my heart, mother to mother, I just can't imagine what she is going through right now. It just breaks my heart," said Susan Newton.
Truett is currently being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center.
