COBB COUNTY (CBS46) -

Cobb County school officials will pay staff extra for their help during the snow storm that left people stranded on highways across Metro-Atlanta in January.

The school board voted Thursday night to reward those faculty and staff members who worked overnight beginning Tuesday into Wednesday, Jan. 29.

"We were wanting to show our appreciation for all the good work our employees voluntarily did," said Randy Scamihorn, Vice Chair of the Cobb County School Board. "And, they stepped up and took care of our students, and our kids and in some cases fellow employees."

The board agreed to pay hourly school employees overtime plus an extra $25 an hour after 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28. Salaried employees will receive an extra day of paid leave.

"I'm just very proud of our employees, I'm proud of this school district…I look forward to helping them any way I can," said Scamihorn.

School board officials did not budget for this extra pay but hope to find it in their contingency fund.
