ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Firefighters managed to salvage vaccines from an office inside a heavily damaged medical building in Alpharetta hours after it went up in flames Friday morning.

A passer-by reported the fire on Crabapple Road just before 3:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from the roof of the two-level structure. Firefighters battling the blaze had to retreat when the roof began to collapse.

Several businesses were housed in the building, including Roswell Pediatrics on the first floor and a dental office on the second floor.

"We've been in this area for over 30 years and in this office for over 20 years and so a lot of memories are in the office," said Evan Landis, the managing partner of Roswell Pediatrics.

Alpharetta firefighters were able to salvage two coolers full of vaccines worth thousands of dollars from a room inside Roswell Pediatrics. The vaccines were not damaged.

Landis also said despite the damage to the office, no medical records were lost.

"We've been on electronic medical records since 2001 so no patient records were lost," said Landis. "They're all secured at one of our other locations so we have easy access to all of that."

Landis said patients at the office could get care at Roswell Pediatrics' other two locations.

Mark Lewington, the CEO of C.T.S., a data management company, removed several charred computers from his office.

"It's more than just a job," said Lewington. "It's more of a life. I'm the CEO. I kind of put my heart and soul into it. Just to come this morning and see the devastation was just heartbreaking."

Investigators are trying to pinpoint the cause of the fire but said they had no reason to believe it was suspicious.

"It's unfortunate but we're all here," said Kelcey Healy, who works at a nearby medical office. "We're family so we're here to help."
