Riverdale Creates business incubator program to grow local businesses

Rene Noussimie's company, Bakop Construction Services, is moving into a new office at the Riverdale Center for Innovation and he said he needs help.

"I am getting ready to hire some more folks in a couple weeks," said Noussimie.

Bakop Construction Services is one of the first companies to take part in center's businesses incubator.

"It is designed to help us help ourselves," said Michael Syphoe.

Syphoe is the Executive Director of the Center for Innovation.

"Our goal now is to attract small businesses grow small businesses and at the same time grow a charter school environment that can be our alternative when perspective vendors come to town," Syphoe said.

The center is an old elementary school that has been transformed into office space that small businesses can rent out. So far 11 businesses have moved in, including Bakop, an architecture firm, and a digital marketer.

Chick fil-A is training employees at the center. Next month the center will focus on startup businesses.

"We have a list of startups, people who want to be in business but we have to vet them to see if they have a business plan, to see if they can really be honed into a business owner, then we will provide the training," Syphoe said.

Syphoe said the training and networking opportunities are invaluable for startups and established businesses.

"It is a win-win situation for everybody," said Noussimie.

Noussimie has already seen the benefits.

"The regional manager of Georgia Power called me the other day and got me all my information because he has some work for me at Greenbriar Mall. This is an opportunity for all of us," said Noussimie.
