McGill leaves jail with an unidentified woman
DeKalb County judge grants McGill $50,000 bond
DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -
An elementary school principal charged with violating the Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act walked out of jail on bond around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday.
Dr. John McGill went before a judge for the first time Tuesday, two days after his arrest at the hands of GBI agents. The judge granted McGill a bond of $50,000 during Tuesday's hearing in DeKalb County Magistrate Court.
After McGill made bond, he waited in the jail lobby for about an hour before leaving with an unidentified woman who showed up to give him a ride.
The 56-year-old was principal of Mt. Carmel Elementary in Douglasville. The school system suspended him after his arrest Sunday morning.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, McGill and 13 other men, sought sex with children through online chat rooms and message boards.
In McGill's case, according to his arrest warrant, McGill traded communications with an undercover agent, thinking that the agent was a mother willing to prostitute her daughter. Early Sunday morning at the DeKalb County location where McGill had arranged to meet the child, he was arrested, investigators said.
"There's always more facts that are going to come out," said McGill's attorney, Mac Pilgrim. "All you've got at this point is one side of the story. Everybody's presumed not guilty, so we're going to continue the plea of not guilty until the time that they have enough evidence to prove he is in fact guilty."
McGill's preliminary hearing is set for March 17.
