BUTTS COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A Butts County teenager is accused of beating his grandmother to death with a baseball bat.

Sheriff's deputies said JeNorman Bland, 18, faces several charges, including murder.

Bland told investigators he went to his grandmother's house on Dub Walker Road in Jackson, GA, asking for a ride to a nearby store to buy cigarettes, but she was getting ready for work.

Deputies said Bland chased his grandmother, Glenda Woodard, through her house and repeatedly struck her with the bat.

Woodard was found dead inside her home around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers say Bland took his grandmother's car and drove to Griffin where he was arrested. Investigators said the high school senior did not have a past criminal history.

He lived next door to his grandmother. A steady stream of people visited the house on Wednesday to support the family.

Bland had his first court appearance at 9:30 Thursday morning at the Butt's County Sheriff's office. He is charged with felony murder, false imprisonment, kidnapping and armed robbery.

He was not granted bond.
