Dog needs home by Sunday

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Right now dozens of dogs at Fulton County Animal Control are on borrowed time.

They need someone to adopt them or they'll be euthanized.

A Covington woman hopes that won't be the fate for one high energy dog with a special history.

Christine Womble has her hands full with her pit bull, Brantley and a three-year-old Akita mix she named Colonel.

"He is a wonderful dog, very loving very sweet," Womble says about Colonel.

Womble found Colonel on Facebook at Fulton County Animal Control. He was a day a way from death.

Womble read that his owner was a Lieutenant Colonel who had to be placed in a nursing home.

And with no known friends for family to give him to, his dog was surrendered.

"Because my son was in the military, my dad was in the military, I have so much honor and respect for those people that sacrifice so much, so I couldn't let that man's sacrifice be what killed this dog, because that dog was his everything," said Womble.

However, Womble can't keep him, and the foster family she found can't adopt him either.

She has until Sunday to find Colonel a forever family.

"Knowing that they have an opportunity to pay it forward to someone who has already given so much means a lot plus you're saving a dogs life. I mean he would not have made it out of that shelter, that was his last day," said Womble.

If you would like to adopt Colonel and make him a part of your family, send us a message on Facebook or Twitter and we'll put you in contact with Christine Womble.
