Adam Murphy's Restaurant Report Card uncovered some serious health violations inside a Norcross Mexican restaurant in Gwinnett County this week.
"We had some questions about your health inspection score," said Murphy to La Fuente employee Martha Villalpando.
La Fuente Mexican Restaurant at 5045 Singleton Rd. in Norcross failed a surprise health inspection with 57 points and a "U" for unsatisfactory.
Inspectors found an employee working with food without washing their hands. They also found a container of lettuce, onions and fish stored on the floor.
"Everything has to be off the floor," Murphy told one employee.
In addition, the inspection report said an employee was seen putting salsa used by a customer back into the cooler to serve to future guests.
"Why were you guys re-using salsa?" Murphy asked.
La Fuente employee Martha Villalpando blamed the mistake on a new employee.
"She was new," said Villalpando. "She had two or three days work here, but we put everything in the trash."
Villalpando said that employee no longer works at the restaurant, but it wasn't the only problem we spotted. They had an old health inspection score of 94 and "A" posted for the public to see instead of their current 57 and "U."
CBS46 News reached the owner on the phone to ask about the violations.
"You need to put the current score up there otherwise it's misleading to the consumer," Murphy told the owner on the phone.
Not only did employees update their health inspection report while CBS46 was there, they thoroughly cleaned their kitchen, and told CBS46 they do so regularly.
"So you're saying you do a very thorough cleaning once a week and then you do basic cleaning every day," said Murphy.
"At night we clean everything," said Villalpando.
Elsewhere in metro Atlanta, there were several good scores from health inspections. Flip Burger Boutique at 664 N. Highland Ave. in Fulton County scored a 96 and an "A."
In Cherokee County, Williamson Brothers BBQ at 1600 Marietta Hwy. in Canton, GA picked up 95 points and an "A."
And in Hall County, Burger King at 1337 Thompson Bridge Rd. in Gainesville, GA, scored a perfect 100.
