Every 14 and a half seconds, a home in the U.S. is burglarized. For those of us living in the south, our chances of being burglarized is 50 percent higher than anywhere else. To ward off thieves, do these things for next to nothing...
Get the local police involved. The department usually sends a trained officer to your house who does a walk-through and suggests fixes.
Buy a couple "Beware of Dog" signs and place them in the front and back of the home, even if you do not have a dog. Make sure they are visible.
Trim your shrubs. If they are overgrown, they are providing cover for someone who may want to case your place.
When you are gone, keep your home looking as if someone is there.
