Rockdale County Sheriff's Deputies have identified the man wanted for an armed robbery carjacking in Rockdale County.
Deputies say his name is Deonte Huddleston. He is 23 years old, is 6'2 and weighs 165 pounds. Investigators said he robbed, pistol whipped and then stole the man's car on Golfview Terrace in Rockdale County. Deputies said they chased Huddleston to the Windward Forest apartment complex in DeKalb County.
"The deputies fled after him giving him verbal commands to stop. The suspect brandished a weapon and my deputies fired at the suspect," said Eric Levett, the Rockdale County Sheriff.
"I was scared to death," said Cherie Woolfolk.
Woolfolk, who lives in the apartment complex, said she wasn't scared of police, she was frightened by what she saw and heard.
"I saw a sheriff running around the side and I heard gunfire. I looked down that a way and the man was telling me to get back in the house and I ran back in the house," Woolfolk said.
"He fled in the vehicle and one of our deputies located that vehicle and began to follow it," said Levett.
Rockdale county sheriff's deputies chased the stolen Lincoln Town Car for several miles before they said Huddleston crashed at the Windward Forest Apartments.
"We saw the suspect run through the back of my apartment and that is all we saw, and the officer pursued him," said Woolfolk.
Deputies said they opened fire when Huddleston pulled out a gun. They said they believe he was wounded in the abdomen. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is handling the investigation into the deputy-involved shooting. Police set up a two mile wide perimeter hoping to catch Huddleston before he left the area, but that perimeter has been taken down and Huddleston remains on the loose.
