Four University of Georgia football players were arrested Monday night. They were all charged with theft by deception, which is a misdemeanor.
The four arrested players were junior James DeLoach, sophomore Tray Matthews, red-shirted sophomore Jon Taylor and red-shirted freshman Uriah LeMay.
LeMay had the most charges against him. The players were all booked into the jail between 8:56 p.m. and 9:22 p.m. They were all released by 10:24 p.m.
According to police, the assistant athletic director at UGA Athletic Association reported that 11 student tuition checks drawn on the association's account had been presented for deposit or cashed twice each since January 2014. The checks were each in the amount of $71.50, for a total loss of $786.50.
The university has not commented on the arrests. UGA football coach Mark Richt only had this to say: "I'm aware of the situation and it will be handled in an appropriate way."
