House explodes in Dawson County

DAWSON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

The state fire marshal's office is expected to investigate the cause of a house explosion Friday along with HAZMAT.

The blast happened around noon Thursday on Wildwood Court in Dawsonville. A two-story home, nearly 4000 square feet, exploded.

"It rocked our house, and it made me nervous. I knew something bad had taken place," said Cathy Holcombe, who lives two houses away.

No one was injured. The homeowner, her son, and partner were all away at the time. "We could've been home; we normally would be home," said Charlie Gardner.

Gardner said they lost everything. "It doesn't look like anything's salvageable."

The home was listed on online realty sites as a short sale. Neighbors said the family had been remodeling.

A cause wasn't immediately known. However, Tim Satterfield, Deputy Chief of Operations for the Dawson County Fire Department, said it initially appeared to be a propane gas explosion.
