Atlanta Habitat for Humanity builds home in Lowe's parking lot

Posted: Updated:

Friday afternoon's beautiful weather made way for a great cause at a Lowe's in Dekalb County.

Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity gathered at the store's parking lot off Fairington Road in Lithonia to build a new home for a deserving family. More than 40 people helped complete a fully framed house.

A volunteer who received a home through the program came out to the event to pay it forward.

"I got a home and I now feel like I've got to pay it back cause of all of the support Atlanta Habitat has given me, I want to share that with others," said Rabeshia.

The event at Lowe's is part of the "Hammer's for Habitat" volunteer drive to mobilize 100,000 new volunteers this year. Habitat for Humanity hopes to serve one million people annually by 2018.

Lowe's in Lithonia will host future activities for the entire family, including Lowe's Build and Grow Kids clinics and fun painting projects to create housewarming gifts for Habitat partner families.
