An Atlanta woman was killed Monday afternoon after being shot on I-20 in west Atlanta.
It happened on the interstate's shoulder going west just before the northbound exit to I-285. An investigator from the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office told CBS46 that the victim is 25-year-old Tyana Boyd of Atlanta.
Authorities arrested the passenger who was in the car with Boyd. They charged 28-year-old Corey Jones with felony murder and aggravated assault.
Jones originally talked with police on I-20 after the shooting and was cooperating while they spent hours searching for a suspect, police said.
Authorities closed two lanes of I-20 as they scoured the woods along the highway looking for possible evidence. Police Commander Paul Guerrucci said they did find "items of extreme evidentiary value."
Boyd was driving a silver 4-door car when she pulled over for some reason, said Guerrucci. A passer-by called 911, and when police arrived, they found Boyd outside the car with a gunshot wound in her midsection. Investigators believe the shooter also was outside the car.
Anyone with information or who may have driven by at the time of the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS.
