LAKE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

The drunk driver responsible for the crash that killed Willoughby Police Officer Jason Gresko in September of 2012 has filed for early release from prison.

Scott Leland pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and OVI in July of 2013, and was sentenced to 48 months in prison.

Officer Jason Gresko was killed in the line of duty on September 21, 2012 when his cruiser collided with Leland's pick-up truck while he was responding to an emergency call. Leland had a BAC of .14.

Leland has only served 6.5 months of his four year sentence.

The Willoughby Police Fallen Officers Memorial Facebook Page is asking supporters of Officer Gresko and his family to petition Judge Gibson with letters.
