CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

The trial continues on Wednesday for the teen driver charged in the deadly hit and run of an elderly woman in Cleveland.

Police say the 17-year-old driver struck Maxine Lobins, 81, near Kamm's Corner on January 9, 2013. Lobins was using a walker and was crossing southbound to northbound in a marked crosswalk.

After hitting the great-grandmother, the driver did not stop and continued eastbound on Lorain. Lobins was taken to Fairview Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Fairview Park teen was not arrested until weeks later.

The victim's family has since filed a lawsuit, saying the teenage girl should have never been allowed to be on the road. The lawsuit says the teen's parents should have known she was "incompetent to drive and a hazard to the public at large."
