MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

This is not how it was supposed to end. Only 19 Action News cameras were rolling when police removed a body from the 15000 block of Sheldon Road in Middleberg Heights.

It started around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

Cuyahoga County Sheriff Deputies showed up to serve a warrant.

Frank and Peggy Dropik live across the street and seen it all happen.

"I was sitting in recliner chair, heard police cars and one of them yelled stop! I looked out and they're all over the place here," said Frank Dropik.

Deputies say the man fired a 22-caliber rifle at them.

Police say he hadn't reported for probation since February of last year.

His probation stems from a conceal/carry weapons violation and assault on an officer.

The officer who fired back, is a veteran who survived two tours of duty in Afghanistan.

We're not releasing the name of the man who he shot and killed, pending confirmation.

But the Dropiks say their neighbor was in his 60's lived there for at least 20 years with a wife and adult daughter.

"Kinda kept to himself. Kinda kept to himself," said Peggy Dropik.

No law enforcement officials were injured in the incident.
