Woody White is releasing his first ad of the Congressional primary campaign
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Woody White's campaign for Congress plans to start airing its first major political ad of the primary season.
Called "New Republican Leadership", the ad features White speaking about "career politicians and lobbyists in Washington have gotten us into a mess."
Seen in the ad along with President Barack Obama, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California), is House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.
Rep. Cantor (R-Virginia) was recently in southeastern North Carolina campaigning for former state Senator David Rouzer, one of the other candidates for the District 7 GOP nomination.
While White does not mention Rouzer by name in the ad, he does use the same "career politician" and "lobbyist" terms he used several times to describe Rouzer during the candidates' first forum last week in Brunswick County.
White's campaign said in an email that the ad will run for two weeks starting Wednesday on broadcast TV stations in the Wilmington market, and on cable in the rest of the Seventh Congressional District, which stretches from the coast inland to Johnston County.
A campaign spokesman declined to provide the total amount spent on this first major ad buy, but documents show the campaign spent around $25,000 to run on at least two broadcast stations in Wilmington.
"Mr. White has trouble with the truth," said Rouzer campaign spokesperson Jessica Wood when asked about White's ad. "The truth is Woody White is a trial lawyer and failed politician. And most certainly no friend to conservatives."
The District 7 GOP candidates will be together again at a forum sponsored by the Lower Cape Fear Republican Women on April 15, at the Northeast Public Library in Wilmington. The forum will be streamed live on WECT starting at 6 p.m.
