EXCLUSIVE: Accused squatter indicted on additional charges

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

An accused squatter, exposed by a CBS46 investigation last year, has been indicted on six charges.

A DeKalb County grand jury handed down an indictment last week charging Daquisha Barber with perjury, forgery, false statements, theft of service and two counts of identity fraud.

CBS46 first reported on Barber when Valister Wilson claimed the mother of five broke in and moved her family into his Ellenwood home on Valentine's Day last year.

According to the indictment, Barber lied to a judge when she claimed in hearings that she had written a $7,800 check for a lease deposit from her SunTrust Bank account. Barber was not a SunTrust account holder at the time, according to the indictment.

The grand jury also found Barber had forged a lease and lied to a detective about the home address of the alleged broker whom Barber claimed arranged the lease of Wilson's home.

Barber is also facing two counts of identity fraud for allegedly filing tax returns in other people's names without their permission and collecting refunds on Visa debit cards. Detectives found the cards in the home after Barber and her family were evicted in July.

Barber was arraigned March 21.
