OTTAWA COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Water may not be flowing, but there has been a steady stream of visitors stopping by the Marblehead Lighthouse over the last couple of months. Mountains of ice piled up along the shoreline are a big attraction this year bringing tourists to Ottawa County during the normally slow season.

Sightseers traveled to witness layers upon layers of ice stacked up like a sloppy deck of cards. It's a dramatic sight folks living along the shoreline say they haven't seen since the 1970's.

It wasn't hard to find people willing to climb up the ice mountain.

"It's really neat to see the kids out enjoying the ice and sliding on it," said Ed Hammett who visited the ice jam.

This year's tourist attraction is great news for restaurants and stores in the lakeside Marblehead community.

"It is a quaint little town. We wouldn't mind shopping at some of the little shops," said Kim Morse from Findlay.

Morse and daughter Kristyn Farmer said it was their first time there in the winter. They spent the day touring the town before Farmer moves to Florida.

"It will be nice to be on warm beaches. I'll definitely miss the snow and the ice, but I'm excited," said Farmer.

It doesn't look like the piles are going anywhere just yet, but as the weather warms up, the ice jams will start to loosen, making them unsafe to walk on.
