Friends, family gather for vigil after double homicide in Newnan

Posted: Updated:

Friends and family gathered for a vigil Wednesday after a double homicide in Newnan.

"My nephew called me and he just told me he [her son] had been shot in the head," said Lorella Person, mother of Darian Person, one of the people killed.

Police said Darian Person, 23, and Gregory Williams, 31, were gunned down by Kamikie Wilkins on Hill Street.

"There is no reason for retaliation, and this senseless violence must stop," said the Rev. Tamarkus Cook of St. Smyrna Baptist Church.

Cook preached a message of peace Wednesday because he said they fear retaliation.

"We need to pray for these young men and give them guidance and love and [there is] no need for any more violence," said Person.

Police said Wilkins is being questioned but has not yet been charged.
