Daughter wants answers after finding her dad in a Buford creek

BUFORD, GA (CBS46) -

A daughter said she is looking for answers after finding her dad in a Buford creek Saturday.

Kayte Wilford said she and other family members found her dad, 43-year-old Stanley Maddox, dead in a creek near Sudderth road.

Wilford and other family members said that Maddox disappeared a month ago, and that Gwinnett police refused to look for him.

"We tried to fill out a missing person report, and they wouldn't let us do it because they had warrants on him," said Julie Puckett, Maddox's ex-wife.

Gwinnett County police officer Jeffery Richter said that's not protocol, and that outstanding warrants would not stop police from looking for a missing person.

"If there were outstanding warrants, the Sheriff's department would've been looking for him as well," said the officer.

The Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
