Mother wants tighter security at apartment complex after murder

Posted: Updated:

An Atlanta mother said she wants tighter security at an apartment complex after her son was robbed and murdered.

"My son was a big part of my life and there is just an empty space there that I don't know how to fill. It's like I will never see him. My son is gone forever," said Belinda Jones.

Police said Randy Menefee was killed at the Allen Hills Apartments in Southwest Atlanta.

Jones said her son was shot with five children nearby.

"I would like something to be done about the security out there so that no family has to suffer the pain and the grief and the loss that this has caused me and my family," said Jones.

She said police have arrested four men in connection with the murder.

"(I) just want to make sure these cold-hearted killers remain behind bars," said Jones.

CBS46 learned security guards are required to check identifications at the front gate.

"On the night of his death they were supposed to check security. I was able to walk through the gate," said Jones.

Jones said she was told security cameras should have captured the incident, but they were not working at the time.

CBS46 reached out to the management of the Allen Hills Apartments, but our call went unanswered.
