Family searches for missing Cobb County soldier

Posted: Updated:

The family of a missing Cobb County soldier have passed out more than 1,500 flyers in an effort to find him after he disappeared last Thursday.

Chase Massner, 26, spent four years in the Army and served one year in Iraq. He was last seen at an Arby's on Bells Ferry Road in Kennesaw. He worked as a night manager at a nearby Quik Trip.

"It's just out of character," said his wife, Amanda Massner. "It's not something he does. He's not this type of person."

Massner said her husband suffered from bipolar disorder and told friends he planned to go to the woods to be by himself.

"We've had ups and downs," said Massner. "We've had some hard times with his mental stability and we've been working through that, but he's never disappeared. He's never dropped off."

Massner and her mother-in-law have organized search groups, though they said it is difficult to know where to start looking.

"I just want him to know that there's not any single thing in the world that we can't work through, that we can't get through together," said his mother, Stephanie Cadena.

The Massners have two daughters, ages 1 and 3.

"We just said daddy needs some time," said Massner. "We don't want them to know nobody can find him."

Cobb County police said they are aware that Chase Massner is missing but told CBS46 they are not actively searching for him since he is an adult who left on his own accord, and they have no reason to suspect foul play.
