Woman kidnapped, driven miles and raped at Cherokee County hotel

Posted: Updated:

A woman was recovering at a sexual assault center Monday after police said a man kidnapped the woman, drove miles with her in a vehicle, then raped her at a hotel in Cherokee County.

Adairsville police rushed to a Ramada Inn on Georgia North Circle on Sunday night and found the woman in the hotel lobby. They said she was visibly traumatized and shaken.

"The receptionist called 911 for her," Lt. Matt Fowler of Adairsville police told CBS 46 news exclusively. "The suspect had thrown away her cell phone on the interstate."

Lt. Fowler said the woman told police the man kidnapped her in unincorporated Cherokee County at a Taco Bell. That she "had been duct-taped and thrown into the rear of an SUV."

Moments after finding the victim in the hotel lobby police found the accused kidnapper-rapist, 43-year-old Chancey Droney of Canton.

Fowler said Droney was hurt from cutting himself with a knife. Police got Droney medical attention, then arrested him and took him to the Bartow County jail.

They have charged Droney with nine crimes, including aggravated sodomy, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated sexual battery and kidnapping.
