Firefighters are battling a blaze which has consumed two buildings in Rome Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around 4:15 a.m. at a doctor's office on North Fifth Avenue. Flames quickly spread from that building to a second structure next door, according to Floyd County 911 dispatch.

One structure has collapsed, according to authorities. Floyd County police are diverting traffic from North Fifth Avenue and Martha Berry Boulevard. Police ask motorists to avoid the area. Roads are blocked.

The fire is near some motels in the city and several streets north of Floyd Medical Center.

No evacuations have been ordered from nearby buildings. No injuries have been reported.
