Artist wants to bring light show to downtown Atlanta

Posted: Updated:

An artist wants to bring a light show to downtown Atlanta which he says will be good for the city.

"I would try it once if it's for a good cause. I'm a sucker for almost anything," said R.J. Cantrell.

Artist John Brimelow will have to raise $1.2 million for the show which will run Oct. 16-18. He is asking citizens donate $1 to make it happen.

Lights will be reflected off of downtown buildings like 191 Peachtree, Georgia Pacific and Equitable.

The mayor's office said it is waiting on approval from the city council before giving Bigelow the green light.

Assuming Brimelow can raise the funds, the city's Office of Cultural Affairs has agreed to incorporate the show which is called City Lights into ELEVATE, an urban art project, as a part of its festival offerings.
