Police say man shot, killed girlfriend

UNION CITY, GA (CBS46) -

Union City police are asking for the public's help locating a murder suspect.

"I mean it's the hardest thing a mother could do. I mean the worst," said Carol Brown, the mother of the woman slain.

According to detectives, officers were dispatched to the Garden Inn Suites at 6170 Shannon Parkway in reference to a person shot.

When officers arrived, they found Jennifer A. Gatewood, 25, deceased from a gunshot wound.

After investigating, detectives said a felony murder warrant was issued for Gatewood's boyfriend, Irwin C. Dresbach, 32, and an accomplice.

Officers said the woman originally thought to be an accomplice turned herself in to police and is cooperating. They said it is not likely she will be charged.

"I had met him [Dresbach] a few times. I'd even asked my daughter Jennifer, 'How well do you know this guy? He's just creepy,'" said Brown.

Brown said her daughter told her she was not in a relationship with Dresbach, but she said she sensed they were.

"If I could say something to him … I would ask him, ‘Why did you do this? This is a girl. You're a man. You're evidently larger than her. Why did you have to shoot her?'" said Brown.

Union City police are asking anyone with information to call 770-515-7836.
