High winds from storms knock down trees, cause other damage

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

High winds knocked down trees, blew off a rooftop and caused power outages for thousands when powerful storms moved through south Louisiana late Sunday night.

Damaging hail also fell in some parts. Residents reported vehicle damage and shattered windows due to the hail.

A tree fell onto a home on Manorwood Drive off Sherwood Forest Boulevard in Baton Rouge around midnight. No injuries were reported.

Parts of a roof of an apartment complex somehow landed on Florida Boulevard near Little John Drive. It blocked one lane of traffic.

Trees and limbs also fell on Lasalle Avenue off Lobdell Avenue in Baton Rouge.

Outages from the storm affected more than 8,000 residents. Baton Rouge Lutheran School and Florida Boulevard Baptist Church Daycare and Preschool are closed due to no power.

Thousands of Entergy and DEMCO customers in the Baton Rouge Metro area were left in the dark.

As of Noon, Entergy and Demco say bulk of power outages are in EBR. An estimated 2,300 customers are still in the dark. Their goal is have the power restored to all homes by 6 p.m.

The tornado and flash flood watches that were in effect ended around 5:30 a.m.
