Boil-water advisory in effect for portions of East Atlanta

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A boil-water advisory is in effect for portions of East Atlanta.

A Georgia Power outage resulted in a temporary loss of pressure in the drinking water system. The system was restored to normal operations within approximately 13 minutes.

In an abundance of caution, a boil-water advisory is in effect.

Customers should boil water for 1 minute past a rolling boil before using it for cooking, drinking or brushing teeth. Infants, the elderly and those with immune deficiencies should be particularly careful.

The Department of Watershed Management is flushing the system as a precaution and sampling the affected zones to affirm that there is no contamination in the system, as well as investigating causes of the power interruption.

This advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. Wednesday for the following areas:

  • Gordon Street SE to the north, Lakeview Avenue to the west, Cottage Grove Avenue to the south, 4th Avenue to the east
  • Kirkwood Avenue SE to the north, Chester Avenue to the west, Memorial Drive to the south, Stovall Street to the east
  • McPherson Avenue SE to the north, Moreland Avenue to the west, Glenwood Avenue to the south, Haas Avenue to the east
